Role Summary

We have an exciting new contract opportunity based in Portsmouth OR Dorchester as a Hardware Engineer.

The role will be an initial 12-month contract and will provide you with the opportunity to work on the Maritime Multi-link project for a large defence client at the forefront of technology, helping to enable UK and its Allies to make better battlespace decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Engineer to be a part of the Maritime Multi Link (MML) Hardware team responsible for undertaking a defined range of hardware engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, associated with the MML programme. This programme will provide UK forces with the enhanced means to disseminate, and exploit coherently, tactical data and information across the battlespace.

The role could be based in either Dorchester or Portsmouth and will broadly consist of requirements management, designing, procuring, building and delivering acceptance events of COTS/MOTS cabinets.

Key skills & qualifications

Key Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in equipment design and development using COTS/MOTS hardware and industrial standard computer technology and bespoke interfaces.
  • Experience with bespoke cabinet design, wiring schedules, power distribution etc.
  • Experience of hardware build, integration and testing at system level.
  • A good understanding of Product Safety and Design Certification
  • An understanding of Qualification and Environmental compliance testing.
  • An excellent team player with strong communication skills and an ability to work independently at pace with minimal supervision

Desirable Skills:

  • Good knowledge of current Naval Combat System Equipment based on COTS/MOTS technology across the lifecycle phases including physical aspects Experience in Naval Combat System Equipment build, manufacture, physical integration, installation and acceptance.
  • Experience of working with sub-contractors.
  • Minimum 5 Years’ experience in engineering or a defence or related industry.
  • Experience within a Naval Combat Systems Development Environment across multiple lifecycle phases.
  • Good understanding of Life Cycle Management & the Engineering Lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of CMS & Tactical Data Links

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be based in London and will report to the Operations Director.

Our ideal candidate is a driven and diligent individual – with experience managing multiple projects, suppliers and people. Your role will be to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of the projects within the business. As a member of the operations team you will work closely with upper management to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, as well as other departments for support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement an effective end to end project delivery process
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing operational policies and procedures
  • Identify efficiency improvements within operations
  • Participate in product roadmap reviews and help to improve the IoT integration platform through customer feedback and user experience reviews.
  • Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  • Work with and manage third party contract partners – ensuring installation, configuration and testing meets scope and customer requirements
  • Work with project team (internal and external) to deliver a successful handover of completed project/s
  • Scope out opportunities and price projects
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the successful execution of projects
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop detailed project plans to track progress
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
  • Report and escalate to management as needed
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with an innate ability to multitask
  • Proven working experience within the same or similar role
  • Engineering background or working within the building environment is highly desirable
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Adept at using G Suite programmes
  • Team player – happy to go the extra mile for your colleagues/team

  • Monitoring and analysing reject, rework, and RFT data, and present information to management
  • Monitoring and supporting non-conformance / quality issue management (‘CAR’, ‘Q1’, ‘Q2’, ‘Q3’, etc.)
  • Driving and supporting targeted CI (Continuous Improvement) activities, focussing on reduced rejects and cost & improved operational workflows, throughput and efficiency

Essential:

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer, with industry experience in the design, build and installation of compressed gas and atmospheric management systems and supporting systems and equipment.

You will work as part of a team responsible for a number of compressible gas and atmospheric systems plus interfaces to other systems that form part of our complex and World Class product. The complex nature of the product may see you being involved in a wide range of activities from all stages of design to supporting our customer, suppliers and resolving build or commissioning issues.

Demonstrable experience across the full engineering lifecycle of the development and delivery of relevant compressible gas systems and their supporting equipment.

Experience of compressible gas flow calculations.

System of systems problem solving.

Desirable:

Chartered Engineer

Experience in balancing complex design requirements and managing complex documentation packs.

Experience of working with Oxygen systems.

Experience of using computerised flow modelling software such as Flowmaster.
