Quality Mechanical Engineer

Main responsibilities Reviewing Shop Floor records (e.g. 'SMDCP' documents), 'First Off' items for Quality Dept. approval, technical specifications, drawings, and endorse Certificates of Conformity as an approved signatory. Performing Internal Audits, supporting External Audits, and supporting the development of audit responses and robust corrective actions which prevent identified problems from ever happening again.

As a Quality Engineer, you will be ensuring operational compliance to specifications and quality standards. You will drive and support with continuous improvement activities within a busy manufacturing site focused on high volume manufacturing. You will also support resolution of quality issues, support audit processes and external audits as required. This role will provide you with the ability to challenge and develop yourself in a broad and dynamic role in a busy manufacturing site. You will develop your skills and become a subject matter expert for the wider engineering team as well as other stakeholders across the site.

Main responsibilites

Reviewing Shop Floor records (e.g. ‘SMDCP’ documents), ‘First Off’ items for Quality Dept. approval, technical specifications, drawings, and endorse Certificates of Conformity as an approved signatory.

Performing Internal Audits, supporting External Audits, and supporting the development of audit responses and robust corrective actions which prevent identified problems from ever happening again.

Monitoring and analysing reject, rework, and RFT data, and present information to management

Monitoring and supporting non-conformance / quality issue management (‘CAR’, ‘Q1’, ‘Q2’, ‘Q3’, etc.)

Driving and supporting targeted CI (Continuous Improvement) activities, focussing on reduced rejects and cost & improved operational workflows, throughput and efficiency

Continually improving your own understanding of lean manufacturing methods, and core tools (including but not limited to: VSM, Root Cause Analysis, 8D, Six Sigma, TOC, MS Excel, Minitab…) and also encouraging and assisting in continually improving the knowledge of others across Land UK.

Assisting with product acceptance testing in compliance with customer requirements, interfacing with customer GQAR and representatives

Your skills and qualifications: Essential:

Recognised 4 year Engineering apprenticeship combined with HNC, HND OR Engineering degree Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment

Desirable: Experience of working in a quality function Working towards a chartership or equivalent

We have an exciting new contract opportunity based in Portsmouth as a Product Safety Engineer

The role will be an initial 12 month contract

Key Responsibilities

Producing pre-bid product safety & environmental assessments to inform the risks associated with the project

Producing safety & environmental management plans

Developing safety & environmental arguments for complex systems (including software) sometimes from first principles

Selecting and executing the most appropriate and recognised hazard identification, analysis and risk classification / reduction techniques

Developing Hazard Logs using SMARTer

Key skills & qualifications

Essential:

HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or experience in Engineering

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • System safety/ product safety
  • Naval operator/maintainer background within Weapons

Experience of working with multiple project stakeholders at various levels

An awareness of legislation, standards, processes and tools used in safety and environmental engineering

Desirable:

Experience working within a Ministry of Defence/Royal Naval environment

Product safety or systems safety experience gained from a complex engineering environment

Understanding of MoD safety management activities and processes, e.g. DSA01.1, DSA02.DLSR, DEF STAN 00-051, 00-055, 00-056 and the ALARP process

The ability to carry out and analyse results of studies such as Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Failure Mode Effects & Critical Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), to gather evidence to support the production of a safety case

Experience in conducting Risk Management in accordance with Def Stan 00-56

Exposure to IEC 61508 (Functional Safety of electrical / electronic / programmable electronic safety-related systems)

An understanding of the BowTie methodology and ability to produce BowTie diagrams

An understanding of Goal Structuring Notation (GSN)

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer, with industry experience in the design, build and installation of compressed gas and atmospheric management systems and supporting systems and equipment. You will work as part of a team responsible for a number of compressible gas and atmospheric systems plus interfaces to other systems that form part of our complex and World Class product

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer, with industry experience in the design, build and installation of compressed gas and atmospheric management systems and supporting systems and equipment.

You will work as part of a team responsible for a number of compressible gas and atmospheric systems plus interfaces to other systems that form part of our complex and World Class product. The complex nature of the product may see you being involved in a wide range of activities from all stages of design to supporting our customer, suppliers and resolving build or commissioning issues.

Demonstrable experience across the full engineering lifecycle of the development and delivery of relevant compressible gas systems and their supporting equipment.

Experience of compressible gas flow calculations.

System of systems problem solving.

Desirable:

Chartered Engineer

Experience in balancing complex design requirements and managing complex documentation packs.

Experience of working with Oxygen systems.

Experience of using computerised flow modelling software such as Flowmaster.

Awareness of diving air systems.

Job Description

In support to a new development programme perform the following tasks:
