Purpose:

Network Monitoring Administrator to join a specialist team who develop and maintain the network monitoring systems for our FTTP and FTTH services as well as our own internal networks.

This a challenging and varied role which consists of working across departments, as well as being a point of escalation for any issues with.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and expand our Splunk Cloud based monitoring platform to ensure that all network nodes are monitored (potentially millions of nodes), and alerts are delivered in a timely manner to relevant teams.
  • Liaise with the client’s network engineering teams to determine their monitoring requirements and identify further opportunities for automation of monitoring and alerting as the network continues to grow.
  • Report network operational status by creating apps, dashboards and integrations in Splunk to display relevant information to different teams.
  • Automation of network monitoring agents and collectors via scripting to ensure standardisation of our network monitoring.
  • Develop solutions that are reusable and can be broadly applied to monitor various vendors’ network hardware.

Essential skills:

  • Proven experience of Splunk (Cloud or on-premise) system administration, including managing data ingestion, indexes, dashboards and query optimisation. (CRITICAL)
  • Strong understanding of data networking, with a particular focus on monitoring protocols such as SNMP, NetFlow and IPFIX.
  • Knowledge of Linux and general system administration.

Desireable skills:

  • An understanding of MIBs, OIDs and the translation and applying them to different use cases.
