Role Description
The role holder:
- The role of the Quality Lead I is to manage and develop the team to achieve a scope of work to ensure that the Business Unit remains compliant to the local Quality Business Management System
- Competent Quality professional capable of managing own tasks and delivering results which impact on governance and assurance
- Providing guidance and support to more junior members of the department
- Able to carry out complex Quality activities (within own capability and skill base area) in accordance with relevant processes and procedures
- Domain areas include, but are not limited to: Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality Assurance, Supplier Improvements, Quality Improvements, Quality Engineering, Quality Reporting, Quality Systems, Quality Records, Strategic Manufacturing, Field Engineers, Receipt Inspection, Site Redevelopment Programme, Quality Inspection
Core Duties
The role holder:
- Work as a fully contributory member of the Quality team and support the development of others within the team
- Responsible for leading by example on SHE and responsible business behaviours
- A member of the Quality team who understands daily prioritisation of work, deals with emergent issues and is the escalation route within immediate team for problems
- Undertake routine and non-routine Quality Assurance activities and tasks
- Manage own development and support the team with their development
- Support succession planning activities to futureproof team
- Able to access and have a clear understanding of the local Management System documentation e.g. policies, procedures, workmanship standards, risk assessments and COSHH assessments and processes in their related area
- Responsible for the deployment of applicable Business Management System and SHE documentation to team members ensuring they have a thorough understanding of the content
- Responsible for leading internal and supplier audits
- Responsible for leading the verification of all non-conformances
- Responsible for leading and/or supporting Quality investigations
- Lead effective analysis of data, identifying themes and driving and leading corrective action management
- Support the programme embedded Learning from Experience (LfE) teams and relating LfE reviews
- Support certification activity
- Process Owner for key Quality processes
- Use of Company computer systems and software as appropriate and training others
- The ability to articulate and deliver Quality & Business strategic objectives
- Represent the Quality function at local reviews
- The ability to critique and tailor issues and ideas in written reports and presentations ensuring accuracy and clarity of meaning
- The ability to deliver results and ensure continuous improvement
- The ability to promote Quality at working groups
- Responsible for leading Quality Assurance projects within the Quality function
Competencies
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 / EN9100 standards
- Detailed knowledge of own discipline within Quality Assurance and a broad understanding of other Quality related disciplines
- Understand how their own role and team fit into overall objectives of the function and the ability to articulate to team members
- Understanding of Business Management Systems, Operational Framework and Operational Assurance process
- Knowledge of product safety
- Understanding the importance of cross functional integration
- Export requirements knowledge (for example International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)) and support others within the team
Skills:
- The ability to interpret specifications, procedures and contract requirements
- The ability to undertake Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies; Fishbone, 5 Why, relationship diagrams, six sigma etc. gathering and analysing evidence
- Effective action management and verification
- Effective stakeholder management (including with the customer)
Qualifications:
- HNC or degree qualified in an appropriate technical discipline or equivalent experience
- Be a quality professional, at least lead auditor status or equivalent experience
