Principal Engineer – Independent Nuclear Assurance

Role Summary

We have an exciting new contract opportunity based in Cumbria as a Principal Engineer – Independent Nuclear Assurance.

The role will be an initial 12-month contract and will provide you with the opportunity to work within the Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team which is mandated by the Submarines board to independently evaluate the nuclear and radiological safety performance on our clients’ site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and deploy individual Assurance Plans for discrete tranches of nuclear/radiological activity on site.
  • Work collaboratively with other internal assurance functions, external regulatory authorities and customer acceptance teams.
  • Provide informal and, where necessary, formal advice to the business in relation to its nuclear and radiological safety performance.
  • Act as a member, and in some cases the nominated Deputy Chair, of relevant quality and safety groups associated with INA as appropriate. d safety committees and groups as required.
  • Process Ownership of a subset of INA’s management system documentation.
  • Ensure personal, and where appropriate, team compliance with all Quality and SHE requirements of the Submarines management system.
  • Perform independent Inspection, Surveillance and Concurrence of nuclear work on facilities, plant, equipment and nuclear support services, on-board and on-site to evaluate the nuclear and radiological safety performance at Barrow.
  • Maintain oversight of Independent Peer Review activity related to safety documentation aligned with individual Assurance Plans
  • Develop, maintain and deploy an effective Operational Experience Feedback system for the Barrow Site that encompasses all relevant nuclear and radiological incidents and events, from both internal and external sources.
  • Develop and maintain a system to collate and report Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) to monitor the business’ nuclear safety performance. Contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of the operational plan for INA. Review of written methods or procedures in support of work carried out.

Rate: £48.90 per hour (Inside IR35)
