Lead Project Controller

The holder of this position is responsible for the day to day project control activities for the Type 26 Support project and the associated Australian and Canadian contracts, reporting to the Type 26 Support Programme & Governance Manager.

This includes planning, Earned Value based tracking, reporting, reviewing and baseline change across the Maritime Services and Naval Ships toolsets, providing support and challenge to the Support management team and the wider Type 26 programme.

They also organise the annual Phase Review and undertake activities to improve how the project is managed.

The UK Type 26 programme is in the Batch 1 Manufacturing phase for the build of 3 ships, with the Batch 2 extension for 5 further ships anticipated by the end of 2022. This would bring the Support budget to c.£350M.The Australian and Canadian programmes are in the preliminary design phase.

Core Activities

  • Ensure the plan structure (WBS, schedule and activities) is appropriately maintained within the programme tools.
  • Review the monthly T26 Support CAM report, challenging and supporting the contributors to ensure timeliness and quality.
  • Review Baseline Request Change forms and support their approval at the Programme Change Request Board.
  • Analyse and review Earned Value progress to identify diversion from the plan
  • Lead the regular re-estimation of the work/costs to go.
  • Participate in or lead teams of individuals drawn from across the Type 26 team to undertake specific change projects and events.

Key Accountabilities

  • The structure of the Support planning and tracking structures within the business tools, and analysis of the Earned Value data.
  • The content and accuracy of the monthly report for the T26 Support CAM review.
  • Accurate maintenance of the Support budget.
  • Maintenance of the Support Estimate at Completion.
  • Tracking of actual spend against budget and forecast.
  • Maintenance of the overall Support Estimate.

Qualifications

  • Broad PM&C experience demonstrated in a professional capacity within a significant business or project.
  • Extensive, expert level understanding of various PM&C tools techniques, such as Microsoft Planner, Excel and Earned Value Management.
  • Knowledge and experience of PM&C governance and assurance processes such as Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs) and Baseline Change Requests (BCRs).
