Data Analyst – Senior Practitioner


The role holder:

  • Will lead IT in the development and application of projects, policies and processes, IT strategy, systems and programme of work. To design and plan activities and lead in all aspects of the full project and systems lifecycle, ensuring the products implemented add value to the business and contribute to, or influence the strategic direction of the business.
  • Present to, and engages internal/external customers on accessibility, retrievability and protection of electronic information, whilst leading the transformation of information from one format/medium to another, where appropriate. Is seen as the technical lead for the relevant organisational policies and procedures and operates to ensure the information is presented effectively.
  • Within a business change programme, designs and delivers the preparation of technical plans and provides advice on technical aspects of system development and integration (including requests for changes, deviations from specifications, etc.).

Core Duties

The Role Holder:

  • Is seen as the technical lead providing expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures.
  • Leads the planning and implementation of maintenance and installation work, including building and configuration of infrastructure components.
  • Identifies operational problems and ensures their resolution, checking that they are managed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures.
  • Designs, produces and presents proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.
  • Ensures content management processes to meet the needs of users.
  • Uses content publishing systems to manage published content across different channels and takes into account any legal issues related to publishing, including that associated copyright concerns are adequately managed.
  • Manages and challenges where appropriate internal and external suppliers to achieve agreed service levels and quality standards.
  • Verifies and approves changes ensuring protection of assets and components from unauthorised change, diversion and inappropriate use. Ensures that users comply with identification standards for object types, environments, processes, lifecycles, documentation, versions, formats, baselines, releases and templates.
  • Performs audits to ensure the accuracy of information and undertakes any necessary corrective action under direction.
  • Applies ethical and robust techniques in the transformation of data from one format/medium to another, in line with organisational policies and procedures and being sensitive to risks around the use of information.
  • Leads on the co-ordination of plans across multiple suppliers and delivers and communicates those plans.
  • Uses appropriate methods and a systematic approach in the development, maintenance, control and distribution of quality and environmental standards. Makes technical changes to and controls the updates and distribution of quality standards
  • Applies data analysis, design, modelling, and quality assurance techniques.
  • Leads on technical aspects of systems development and integration to function.
  • Delivers projects in collaboration with project and programme management.
  • Provides technical leadership and expertise for technical strategies, policies, standards and practices within own area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates advanced problem solving capability.
  • Will be considerd the SME for a significant domain, discipline or technology

Leadership Responsibilities

The Role Holder:

  • Manages the deployment of, and ensures that relevant strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied currently
  • Stakeholder management – influences local organisation, customers, supplier, partners and peers
  • Generally working to SFIA level 4 and some 5 – autonomy, influence, complexity, knowledge and business skills
  • Leads on the development of technical strategies, policies, standards and practices within own area of responsibility
  • Leading role; seen as the technical expert for owns specific work areas and coaches and mentors others.
  • Manages Incidents & Problems through to resolution and will work on the most complex issues with no need for supervision or support
  • Will Lead work groups to resolve issues over a more extended period (weeks/months) and will carry out resource and milestone planning
  • Will input into the development of the capability
  • Will work regularly with senior customer and supplier stakeholders and will be authoritative in such interactions
  • Responsible for ensuring the Health & Safety of all your employees and that your area operates in accordance with Company Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Budget Responsibilities

The Role Holder:

  • Commercial awareness and budget management and quality/version control experience. May have small budget responsibility as part of wider projects.



  • Awareness of business unit policies and processes
  • Experience of working in an IT Development Function


  • A foundation level of experience in the delivery of objectives in a couple if not all of the Solution Definition Design and Delivery skill sets.

  • Be trained at least to ITIL foundation and either appropriate ITIL Intermediate or other appropriate capability training
  • Knowledge of working within a SIAM operating model would be beneficial
  • Must be self motivated and be capable of managing suppliers and other stakeholders to deliver quality output on time.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or equivalent experience (e.g. HNC / Prince 2 Foundation / Computer Science Degree
